RESUMO

This Dissertation is a qualitative research with the purpose of exploring and understanding the changes envolving the Destilaria Giasa, considering the diffusion process of a technology innovation in the case of a familiar enterprise inserted in sugar cane industry. In a short definition, cogeneration is a combined heat and power production (CHP), corresponding to an electrical and calorific energy production process by a single and primary energy source. The destilary whose business, during thirty one years of existence was the prodution of alcohol and derivates, was only cogenarating for internal consummation. In the end of 2001, The firm started a new business in the electrical market of self production to sell the energy excess as an independent power producer (IPP) included in a governmental termoelectric emergencial program. About technology innovation and strategy theories, this dissertation caracterizes and analysis the changes occurred in the firm foccusing the new product process: electrical energy. As a conclusion, the dissertation produces results both to the caracterization of its innovative process and conditions considering, as a case study, the intersection points of two different industries: sugar cane and electricity, atracted each other by the viability of a new business envolving technological, economics and social-enviromental fields
