A bioética na formação em odontologia: análise de sua importância para uma prática consciente e crítica

RESUMO

Presentation. The present work consists in an analysis about the contribution of Bioethics to the professional dental practice, considering the profile of the graduate and the Brazilian reality in oral health. Objective. The study aimed at analyzing if the teaching of Bioethics, as a subject for reflection, different from other teachings focused on the development of capacities mainly related to theoretical knowledge and practical skills, represents a differential in dental education, contributing to a conscious and critical notion of reality. Method. One hundred and twenty questionnaires and twelve interviews were applied, with the participation of students and dentists in four different groups, composed of students and professionals that had and others that did not have Bioethics subject, in order to obtain information on their concept about topics and issues of bioethical interest, related to Brazilian Dentistry. Results. All participants, of the four groups of the study, provided information that allowed to identify, in their formation, prioritizing of theoretical and practical knowledge, to the detriment of ethical aspects. Students and professionals of the four groups demonstraded consciousness about public oral health reality, but the students and dentists with education in Bioethics, however, showed better elaboration and arguments in their answers and also a wider and critical view concerning the topics discussed in the study.
