2. First isolation report of Arcobacter cryaerophilus from a human diarrhea sample in Costa Rica
ABSTRACT Arcobacter cryaerophilus is an emerging enteropathogen and potential zoonotic agent transmitted by food and water. In Costa Rica, this bacterium has not been associated with cases of human gastroenteritis, even though it has been isolated from farm animals, especially poultry. This paper reports the first isolation of A. cryaerophilus from a human c

3. Occurence and antimicrobial resistance of Arcobacter species in food and slaughterhouse samples
Abstract The objectives of this study were i) to isolate Arcobacter species (Arcobacter butzleri, Arcobacter skirrowii, Arcobacter cryaerophilus) from different foods and sources, ii) to verify the isolates by multiplex PCR assay, iii) to detect the antibiotic resistance profiles of the isolates. In this study a total of 60 Arcobacter isolates were obtained.

4. Arcobacter butzleri and A. cryaerophilus in human, animals and food sources, in southern Chile
The isolation frequency of Arcobacter species in children with diarrhea, fowls, mammals and food of avian and marine origin was established. In all the samples it was possible to isolate Arcobacter species corresponding 201 (39.4%) to A. butzleri and 24 (4.7) to A. cryaerophilus. Both species were simultaneously isolated in 19 (3.7%) being A. butzleri the mo

5. Arcobacter butzleri: first isolation report from chicken carcasses in costa rica
Arcobacter butzleri isolation from chicken carcasses in Costa Rica is reported for the first time. The isolated strains (P and R) were presumptively identified by their phenotypic characteristics. Definitive identification was made using a multiplex PCR assay for the simultaneous detection and identification of Arcobacter butzleri, Arcobacter cryaerophilus a

8. Arcobacter-specific and Arcobacter butzleri-specific 16S rRNA-based DNA probes.
The genus Arcobacter encompasses gram-negative, aerotolerant, spiral-shaped bacteria formerly designated Campylobacter cryaerophila. Two genus-specific 16S rRNA-based oligonucleotide DNA probes (23-mer and 27-mer) were developed. The probes hybridized with strains of Arcobacter butzleri (n = 58), Arcobacter cryaerophilus (n = 19), and Arcobacter skirrowii (n

9. Bacteremia caused by Arcobacter cryaerophilus 1B.
Arcobacter cryaerophilus group 1B, a gram-negative, curved or helical bacillus primarily known as a bovine and porcine pathogen, was isolated from the blood of a uremic patient with hematogenous pneumonia. The patient was treated successfully with ceftizoxime and tobramycin.

10. Infection of cesarean-derived colostrum-deprived 1-day-old piglets with Arcobacter butzleri, Arcobacter cryaerophilus, and Arcobacter skirrowii.
Neonatal piglets have been used as models to study human campylobacteriosis and helicobacteriosis. The purpose of this study was to determine the relative pathogenicities, on the basis of the duration of fecal shedding and colonization of tissues, of three Arcobacter species in 1-day-old cesarean-derived colostrum-deprived piglets. Two experiments were condu

11. Detection of Arcobacter spp. in the Coastal Environment of the Mediterranean Sea
The occurrence of Arcobacter spp. was studied in seawater and plankton samples collected from the Straits of Messina, Italy, during an annual period of observation by using cultural and molecular techniques. A PCR assay with three pairs of primers targeting the 16S and 23S rRNA genes was used for detection and identification of Arcobacter butzleri, Arcobacte

12. Susceptibility of Arcobacter butzleri, Arcobacter cryaerophilus, and Arcobacter skirrowii to Antimicrobial Agents Used in Selective Media
Several antimicrobial agents used in selective media for the isolation of Arcobacter were found to be inhibitory to strains belonging to this genus. All three species tested were susceptible to colistin and rifampin at concentrations used in selective media. Arcobacter skirrowii was the most susceptible species. 5-Fluorouracil, novobiocin, trimethoprim, and
