1. Odontadenia lutea (Apocynaceae) LEAVES: PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDY AND INSECTICIDAL ACTIVITY AGAINST LEAF-CUTTING ANTS Atta sexdens rubropilosa Forel
The present work describes the chemical constituents of Odontadenia lutea (Vell.) Markgr. leaves and the toxicities of its extract and fractions against Atta sexdens rubropilosa Forel (Hymenoptera: Formicidae). Chromatographic procedures of the ethanolic extract resulted in the identification of the triterpene β-amyrin, the flavonoid rutin, two fatty acids

2. Analysis of the Gene Expression and RNAi-Mediated Knockdown of Chitin Synthase from Leaf-Cutting Ant Atta sexdens
Chitin synthase (CHS) is the enzyme specifically associated with chitin synthesis, an important component of diverse organisms including insects. Two alternative spliced transcripts of the CHS gene (AsCHS-A1 and AsCHS-A2) were identified by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) during the development of the leaf-cutting ant A

3. A rapid survey of ground-dwelling ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in an urban park from state of São Paulo, Brazil
Abstract Twenty two species of wild edible mushrooms were collected from Nasrinual community forest. The levels of 15 amino acids, antioxidant activity, and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) were determined. The 8 essential amino acids were arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, phenylalanine, threonine, and valine, that they were found in all the mushr

4. Trade-off in plant-ant interactions: seasonal variations

5. Chemical control of leaf-cutting ants: how do workers disperse toxic bait fragments onto fungus garden?
ABSTRACT Leaf-cutting ants are controlled with toxic baits. For the method’s greater efficiency, the baits must be distributed and processed by workers during fungus cultivation. To test hypotheses whether the mode of action of the active ingredients, which blocks the sodium channels and interrupts the production of ATP in the mitochondria, interferes with

6. Mitochondrial genomes of genus Atta (Formicidae: Myrmicinae) reveal high gene organization and giant intergenic spacers
Abstract The ants of the genus Atta are considered important pests to agriculture in the Americas, although Atta species are also important contributors to ecosystem functions in the various habitats in which they occur. The aim of this study was to assemble four complete mitochondrial genomes of the genus Atta, construct the phylogenomic tree, and analyze t

7. The effects of two abundant ant species on soil nutrients and seedling recruitment in Brazilian Atlantic Forest
ABSTRACT Ants can influence soil fertility and the spatial distribution of seeds, with possible effects on seedling recruitment. The ant species Pachycondyla striata Fr. Smith, 1858 and Odontomachus chelifer (Latreille, 1802) co-occur in many forest areas in the Neotropics. We assessed soil fertility and seed bank structure in soil samples close and distant

9. Accessing the subterranean ant fauna (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in native and modified subtropical landscapes in the Neotropics

10. First record of the association of the weevil Loncophorus longinasus with the fruit of munguba, Pseudobombax munguba in Central Amazonia, Brazil

11. Floral biology, pollination requirements and behavior of floral visitors in two species of pitaya

12. Structure and Absolute Configuration of Secondary Metabolites from Two Strains of Streptomyces chartreusis Associated with Attine Ants
The antibiotic streptazolin (1), its E-isomer (2), along with the stereoisomers strepchazolin A (3) and strepchazolin B (4) and the inorganic compound cyclooctasulfur (5) were produced in solid culture by Streptomyces chartreusis ICBG377, which was isolated from the fungal garden of the leaf-cutter ant Acromyrmex subterraneus brunneus. This is the first time
