1. Detailed Numerical Study on the Aerodynamic Behavior of a Gurney Flapped Airfoil in the Ultra-low Reynolds Regime
ABSTRACT: The addition of Gurney flap changes the nature of flow around airfoil by producing asymmetric Von-Karman vortex in its wake. Most of the investigations on Gurney flapped airfoils have modeled the flow using a quasi-steady approach, resulting in time-averaged values with no information on the unsteady features of the flow. Among these, some investig

2. A Review on Aerodynamics of Non-Flapping Bird Wings
ABSTRACT Birds are known for their agility, manoeuvrability, and flexibility during flight. These features allow their ability to fly under a large range of flight conditions. Bio flyers and bio aerodynamic/fluid surfaces have inspired many to perform experiments and simulations as well as to relate their results to engineering applications. Wings specifical

3. High-order unstructured spectral finite volume method for aerodynamic applications.
An implicit finite volume algorithm is developed for higher-order unstructured computation of inviscid compressible flows. The Spectral Finite Volume method is used to achieve high-order spatial discretization of the domain, coupled with a matrix-free LU-SGS algorithm to solve the linear systems arising from implicit time marching of the governing equations,

6. Effects of compressibility on aerodynamic surface quantities over low-density hypersonic wedge flow
Hypersonic flow past truncated wedges at zero incidence in thermal non-equilibrium is investigated for a range of Mach number from 5 to 12. The simulations were performed by using a Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) Method. The study focuses the attention of designers of hypersonic configurations on the fundamental parameter of bluntness, which can have a

7. Numerical solution of the Euler equations for representation of transonic flows over airfoils / Solução numérica das equações de Euler para representação do escoamento transônico em aerofólios
The study of aerodynamic modeling methods for the transonic flow regime is of great importance in aeronautical engineering. Major challenge on the treatment of those flows is on their nonlinear features due to compressibility effects and shock waves (appearance). Such nonlinear effects present a strong influence on aerodynamic performance, as well as they ar

8. Molecular phylogenetic analysis of evolutionary trends in stonefly wing structure and locomotor behavior
Insects in the order Plecoptera (stoneflies) use a form of two-dimensional aerodynamic locomotion called surface skimming to move across water surfaces. Because their weight is supported by water, skimmers can achieve effective aerodynamic locomotion even with small wings and weak flight muscles. These mechanical features stimulated the hypothesis that

9. Effects of inhaled ceramic fibres on macrophage function of rat lungs.
To evaluate the biological effect of ceramic fibres on the clearance function of alveolar macrophages (AMs) morphological changes and phagocytic activity of AMs were assessed. Rats were exposed to respirable ceramic fibres with a mass median aerodynamic diameter of 4.4 microns and a concentration of 20.1 mg/m3 in an exposure chamber. They were killed after o
