13. Estudos citogeneticos em dipteros : inversões cromossomicas em Drosophila mediopunctata e fotomapa dos cromossomos politenicos de Cochliomyia hominivorax / Cytogenetics studies in Diptera : chromosomal inversionsin Drosophila mediopunctata and photomap of the

In this research, we seek to understand the relationship between personal interests for the study of the different Biology themes and experiences in the learning of Science over the life of Biology and Science teachers. To this end, we carried out theoretical and empirical studies that integrate qualitative and quantitative methods about: a) translation and

15. Analise de possiveis mecanismos e consequencias funcionais da expressão de galectina-3 em celulas de glioma expostas a condições hipoxicas / Analysis of possible mechanisms and functional consequences of galectin-3 expression in glioma cells exposed to hypoxia
Gliomas are primary Central Nervous System tumors. Among them, glioblastomas are the most common clinical forms and have the worst prognosis. In an attempt to understand glioma biology, the NG97 cell line was established. This cell line presents glioblastoma s characteristics, showing nuclear atipia and high growth rate. Recently, it was discovered that this

16. Bioecological studies on Tamarixia radiata (Waterston, 1922) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) in the control of Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, 1907 (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) / Estudos bioecológicos de Tamarixia radiata (Waterston, 1922) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) para o controle de Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, 1907 (Hemiptera: Psyllidae)
Since 2004, have been detected in citrus-growing areas of São Paulo, the bacterias that are responsible for the main disease of citrus worldwide, known as greening or huanglongbing. The widespread distribution in Brazil of the vector psyllid, Diaphorina citri and the presence of the pathogen in citrus-growing areas is a limiting factor for production. Tamar

17. Influence of temperature and humidity on the biology of Triatoma mexicana (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Triatominae) under laboratory conditions
Several biological parameters related to the Triatoma mexicana life-cycle were evaluated in this study. Three cohorts were maintained under different combinations of temperature and relative humidity (RH): 25ºC/50% RH; 25ºC/75% RH; and 30ºC/75% RH. Observed hatching rates varied from 49-57.5% whereas the average time of hatching varied from 19.5-22.7 days

18. Characterization of the systems ChrR-sigmaR and CC3476-sigmaT in the responses to oxidative and osmotic stresses in C. crescentus / Caracterização dos sistemas ChrR-σR e CC3476σT na resposta de C. crescentus aos estresses oxidativo e osmótico
Caulobacter crescentus is among the bacteria whose genomes encode a high number of ECF sigma factors, which are involved in the transcriptional regulation of a limited set of genes in response to several environmental signals. In the present work, two ECF sigma factors from C. crescentus, σR e σT, were functionally characterized. Data showed that &

19. Gould y Lewontin contra el programa adaptacionista: elucidación de críticas
In their classic paper, Gould and Lewontin (1979) have put forward critical arguments not in all the cases clearly expounded - against the so called "adaptationist program". Since an "adaptation" in one of the most used senses of the term - refers to a feature whose fixation in a population is explained by natural selection, finding adaptations has been cons

20. Pigmentation in Drosophila mediopunctata: phenotypic and heritability / Pigmentação em Drosophila mediopunctata : plasticidade fenotipica e herdabilidade

The use of non-human primates in scientific research has contributed significantly to the biomedical area and, in the case of Callithrix jacchus, has provided important evidence on physiological mechanisms that help explain its biology, making the species a valuable experimental model in different pathologies. However, raising non-human primates in captivity

22. Life cicle aspects of endemic benthic species and its aplication on the sediment quality assesments of natural lakes and reservoirs / Aspectos do ciclo de vida de espécies bentônicas nativas e sua utilização na avaliação da qualidade de sedimentos de lagos naturais e reservatórios
The ecological studies, with views for the conservation of the environment, have been intensified from middles of the century XX. Due to the integration with several other sciences during the process of ecological knowledge formation, those studies have become essential to the development of technologies and appropriate politics for the administration of the

23. Avaliação da citotoxicidade, genotoxicidade e dos efeitos protetores do extrato de Anacardium occidentale L. in vitro
The use of vegetable species in order to treat and cure diseases leads us back to the beginning of our civilization, to the moment in which man started a long journey of handling, adaptation and modification of these natural resources for his own benefit. Among the plants that continue to be a great source of medicine to the humanity is the Anacardium occide

24. Germline transformation of Aedes fluviatilis (Diptera:Culicidae) with the piggyBac transposable element
The technique to generate transgenic mosquitoes requires adaptation for each target species because of aspects related to species biology, sensitivity to manipulation and rearing conditions. Here we tested different parameters on the microinjection procedure in order to obtain a transgenic Neotropical mosquito species. By using a transposon-based strategy we
