1. Metal-Supported Niobium Catalysts Investigation for Conversion of Bio-Renewable Glycerol to Organic Compounds
The glycerol oxidative dehydration to organic compounds, especially acrolein and acrylic acid, was studied over vanadium, molybdenum, and cobalt oxides supported on niobium oxide and niobium phosphate catalysts. At 300 °C, the glycerol conversion was 100% over all catalysts tested, and acrolein was the main product observed, without significant deactivation

2. The effects of adding garlic (Allium sativum L.) on the volatile composition and quality properties of yogurt
Abstract In this study, the effects of adding garlic (Allium sativum L.) of different origins on the volatile composition and quality properties of yogurt were investigated on day 1, 7 and 14 of storage. The addition of garlic did not cause a decrease in the total specific microorganism count (>107) in yogurt samples, and it led to a significant decrease in

3. Determination and Risk Assessment of Formaldehyde and Acetaldehyde in the Ambient Air of Gas Stations in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil
Formaldehyde (FA) and acetaldehyde (AA) were determined in the ambient air of five gas stations (GS) in the city of Salvador, Bahia State, Brazil, using three passive samplers exposed simultaneously for 8 h and analysis by high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV). The concentration ranges found were 3.31-5.78 µg m−3 for FA an

4. Fatores de emissão de compostos carbonílicos medidos em um túnel do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, em condições reais de dirigibilidade
Real-world vehicle emissions of carbonyls compounds (CC) were determined at the Rebouças Tunnel, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The tunnel is a two-bore tunnel with three lanes in each direction and has a length of 2840 m, divided in two sections. On average, approximately 5,000 vehicles (95% light duty) were passing the tunnel per hour. Sixteen samples were simu

6. DNA Damage by Endogenous and Exogenous Aldehydes
The present overview describes the formation of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) adducts from endogenous and exogenous aldehydes, such as acetaldehyde, acrolein, crotonaldehyde, malonaldehyde, 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal and 2,4-decadienal. Malonaldehyde reacts with 2’-deoxyguanosine, 2’-deoxyadenosine, and 2’-deoxycytidine, yielding cyclic pyrimidopurinone and acy

8. Alternative Non-Ionic Pathway for Uncatalyzed Prins Cyclization: DFT Approach
Density functional theory calculations (ωB97X-D/6-311++G(d,p)) are employed to investigate an alternative pathway for Prins-like cyclization. Although strong acids usually catalyze this reaction, 4-amino-1,3-dioxanes are rapidly obtained in high yields without catalyst when benzenamines and acetaldehyde react at low temperatures, in aqueous medium. Consider

9. Carbonyl compounds in wine: factors related to presence and toxic effects

10. Relationship between acetaldehyde concentration in mouth air and characteristics of microbiota of tongue dorsum in Japanese healthy adults: a cross-sectional study
Abstract Acetaldehyde, associated with consumption of alcoholic beverages, is known to be a carcinogen and to be related to the tongue dorsum. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between acetaldehyde concentration in mouth air and bacterial characteristics on the tongue dorsum. Methodology Thirty-nine healthy volunteers pa

11. Quality of ‘Oso Grande’ strawberries is affected by O2, CO2 and N2O concentrations during controlled atmosphere storage
ABSTRACT Consumers around the world appreciate strawberries for their taste. They have low calories and high concentrations of soluble fibers, vitamin C and flavonoids. This paper verified the combined effect of O2, CO2, and N2O levels on ‘Oso Grande’ strawberries stored at 10° C, under controlled atmosphere (CA). Five different gas mixtures were used:

12. Exposure risk to carbonyl compounds and furfuryl alcohol through the consumption of sparkling wines
