1. Assessment of the mechanics of a tissue-engineered rat trachea in an image-processing environment
OBJECTIVES:Despite the recent success regarding the transplantation of tissue-engineered airways, the mechanical properties of these grafts are not well understood. Mechanical assessment of a tissue-engineered airway graft before implantation may be used in the future as a predictor of function. The aim of this preliminary work was to develop a noninvasive i

2. Efeitos da aperiodicidade sobre as transições quânticas em cadeias XY / Effects of aperiodicity on the quantum transitions in XY chains

3. Fatores que influenciam a técnica de hiperinsuflação manual com balão auto-inflável neonatal e pediátrico / Factors affecting manual hyperinflação technique with neonatal and pediatric self-inflating bags
Background: Self-inflating bag (BAI) is the device used to manual ventilate during manual hyperinflation (HM) technique. Despite the BAI being widely used, there is limited information available on their physical characteristics and ventilatory outcomes. The goal of this study was to evaluate the performance of three brands of neonatal and pediatric SIB duri

4. O papel do código estereoquímico e das flutuações térmicas locais no processo de folding de proteínas / The role of stereochemical code and local thermal fluctuation in the protein folding process

5. Mecânica estatística de sistemas complexos: crescimento de tumores com diferenciação e mobilidade celular / Statistical mechanics of complex systems: growth of tumors with differentiation and cell motility

6. Pulmonary and extra pulmonary ALI: local and systemic pathophysiological differences after short term mechanical ventilation / Alterações pulmonares e sistêmicas em modelo de lesão pulmonar aguda de etiologia pulmonar e extra pulmonar após ventilação mecânica de curto prazo
Lung inflammation may vary according to the primary site of injury and may be affected by the mechanical stress generated by mechanical ventilation (MV). Objectives: to address possible differences in lung and systemic responses in pulmonary and extra pulmonary ALI after mechanical ventilation. Methods: BALB/c mice were divided in twelve groups of six animal

Dynamic end Structural Aspects in Networks Models for Complex Systems

8. Modeling long-memory processes by stochastic difference equations and superstatistical approach
It is shown that the Poissonian-like process with slowly diffusing-like time-dependent average interevent time may be represented as the superstatistical one and exhibits 1/ f noise. The distribution of the Poissonian-like interevent time may be expressed as q-exponential distribution of the Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics.

9. Introducing the q-Theil index
Starting from the idea of Tsallis on non-extensive statistical mechanics and the q-entropy notion, we recall the Theil index Th and transform it into the Th q index. Both indices can be used to map onto themselves any time series in a non linear way. We develop an application of the Th q to the GDP evolution of 20 rich countries in the time interval [1950 -2

10. Nonextensive statistical mechanics applied to protein folding problem: kinetics aspects
A reduced (stereo-chemical) model is employed to study kinetic aspects of globular protein folding process, by Monte Carlo simulation. Nonextensive statistical approach is used: transition probability p i j between configurations i → j is given by p i j =[1 +(1 - q)ΔGi j/kB T ]1/(1-q), where q is the nonextensive (Tsallis) parameter. The system model cons

Neuronal avalanches are spatiotemporal patterns of neuronal activity that occur spontaneously in supercial layers of the mammalian cortex under various experimental conditions. Previous studies in brain slices and cultured cells have shown that the distribution of sizes P(s) of neuronal avalanches obeys a power law relationship: P(s) Â sÂa , with exponent

12. Relapse of maxillary anterior crowding in Class I and Class II malocclusion treated orthodontically without extractions / Recidiva do apinhamento ântero-superior nas más oclusões de classe I e classe II tratadas ortodonticamente sem extrações
The present study aimed to retrospectively compare the postretention stability of maxillary anterior incisors alignment in Angle Class I and Class II patients. Sample comprised 38 patients of both genders, treated nonextraction and edgewise mechanics. Sample was divided into two groups: Group 1 (Class I) comprised 19 patients (12 females and 7 males), at a m
