1. Use of Electrochemical Tests for Assessment of the Effect of Erosive Particle Size on the Erosion-Corrosion Behaviour of AISI 304L Austenitic Stainless Steel
The degradation of AISI 304L stainless steel under static corrosion, liquid impingement and corrosion-erosion was studied using polarization curves. Static corrosion and liquid impingement tests were performed in 3.5% NaCl solution. Corrosion-erosion tests were performed in the same solution, containing 10 wt-% of three different SiO2 particle sizes. Synergi

2. Electrochemical behavior of Ti and Ti6Al4V in aqueous solutions of citric acid containing halides
This paper reports on an investigation of the electrochemical behavior of Ti grade 2 and Ti6Al4V alloy in aqueous citric acid solutions with pH 2.0 containing halide ions. Voltammetric studies of Ti and the alloy in citric acid, with and without chloride ions, indicate that the Ti and Ti alloy presented a passive behavior in the test solutions used. Pitting

3. Heat and mass transfer in two-phase flow around airfoils with aeronautical anti-ice systems. / Transferência de calor e massa no escoamento bifásico em torno de aerofólios equipados com sistemas de antigelo aeronáuticos.
It is required to prevent ice accretion on wings and horizontal stabilizers because it may cause aerodynamic performance degradation, weight increase, flight control difficulties and, in critical cases, may lead to operational safety margins reduction. When aircraft flies through clouds containnig supercooled water droplets, which are in metastable equilibri

4. Chemical and physical characterization of cassava flour and soy protein biofilms. / Caracterização físico-química de filmes biodegradáveis de farinha de mandioca e proteína de soja.
Environmental concerns associated with plastics disposal have promoted research into alternatives to replace the common plastic. Following this tendency, this research used cassava flour mixed with different rates of soybean protein and glycerol to produce biodegradable films by thermoplastic extrusion. Variables analyzed were: soybean protein, moisture and

6. Glass passivation in power rectifiers. / Passivação a vidro de junções semicondutoras em dispositivos de potência.
The search for better electrical properties, new passivating materials for semiconductors junctions and the process of obtaining those ones have being studied intensively in the latest decades. There are two types of passivation layers: thick film and thin film. The first one is obtained by the deposition of silicon oxides, silicon nitride or silicon carbide

7. Studies in films of Poly(terephtalate of ethylene) re-covered with conducting Polyaniline. / Estudos em filmes de Poli (tereftalato de etileno) recoberto com polianilina condutora.
Composites with conductive properties have been proposed as materiais in which different physical properties of polymers are combined. In this work a composite consisting of surface layers of polyaniline, PANI, deposited on films of poly(ethylene terephtalate), PET, were prepared. In order to deposit the PANI the PET film were immersed in the solution in whi

8. Characterization of tablet film coatings using a laser-induced breakdown spectroscopic technique
Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) was evaluated as an early phase process analytical technology (PAT) tool for the rapid characterization of pharmaceutical tablet coatings. Measurement of coating thickness, uniformity, and photodegradation-predictive potential of the technique were evaluated. Model formulation tablets were coated with varying amoun

9. Enzymic Mechanisms of Starch Breakdown in Germinating Rice Seeds: 7. Amylase Formation in the Epithelium
The time sequence analysis of the starch digestion pattern of the thin sectioned germinating rice (Oryza sativa L.) seed specimens using the starch film method showed that at the initial stage amylase activity was almost exclusively localized in the epithelium septum between the scutellum and endosperm. Starch breakdown in the endosperm tissues began afterwa

10. Identification of Mycoplasmatales: Characterization Procedures 1
A large collection of avian Mycoplasma cultures was used in studies to improve and develop biological and biochemical characterization techniques. Differential patterns among 11 avian serotypes were shown by carbohydrate fermentation, tetrazolium- and methylene blue-reduction reactions, breakdown of arginine, and the formation of film on egg yolk-agar. Some

11. Ultrastructural appearances of a lens with marked polychromatic lustre: evidence for diffraction as a cause.
A human lens showing polychromatic lustre associated with cortical opacities (Christmas tree cataract) has been examined by slit-lamp photography, thin-section light microscopy, and electron microscopy. Anterior epithelial cells were fibroblast-like, and an area of breakdown of cortical lens fibres was observed in the anterior lens, containing feathery fibre

12. Histochemical and Biochemical Observations on Storage Protein Metabolism and Protein Body Autolysis in Cotyledons of Germinating Mung Beans 1
Storage protein hydrolysis in the cotyledons of germinating mung beans (Phaseolus aureus Roxb.) was examined by histochemical techniques, and the autolytic capacity of isolated protein bodies was studied with biochemical methods. The localization of endopeptidase activity within the cotyledons was studied using an India ink-gelatin film technique. After 24 h
