1. Detection of Viable Salmonella Typhimurium and Staphylococcus aureus in Coalho Cheese by Real-Time PCR
Abstract Real-time PCR (qPCR) has been used for rapid identification of Salmonella Typhimurium and Staphylococcus aureus in dairy foods, but is unable to differentiate viable and unviable pathogens. Ethidium bromide monoazide (EMA), a DNA-intercalating agent, can detect only viable cells because selectively enter cells considered unviable and bind to their D

2. In vitro genotoxicity of nitroimidazoles as a tool in the search of new trypanocidal agents
BACKGROUND Only benznidazole (Bnz) (1) and nifurtimox (Nfx) (2) are licensed for the treatment of Chagas disease although their safety and efficacy profile are far from ideal. Farmanguinhos from Fiocruz has developed seven nitroimidazole compounds (4-10) analogs of megazol (3). OBJECTIVES To evaluate whether the genotoxic effect of 3 was abolished in the

3. Pulp Fibroblast Cell Apoptosis After Application of Hema Dentine Bonding Material with Ethanol and Water Solvent

4. Synthesis of New 1,2,3-Triazolo-naphthalimide/phthalimide Conjugates via ‘Click' Reaction: DNA Intercalation and Cytotoxic Studies
Cancer is a complex disease which involves abnormalities of multiple cellular pathways. Current chemotherapeutic drugs are mainly designed to target the DNA and cell division. Therefore, in the present study, we have synthesized a new series of 1,2,3-triazolo-naphthalimide/phthalimide conjugates and evaluated their in vitro cytotoxicity against selected huma

5. Cholesterol improves the transfection efficiency of polyallylamine as a non-viral gene delivery vector
ABSTRACT Cationic polymers such as polyallylamine (PAA) having primary amino groups are poor transfection agents and possess a high cytotoxicity index when used without any chemical modification. In this study, PAA was modified with cholesterol in order to improve transfection efficiency and to reduce cytotoxicity. PAA polymers with molecular weights of 15 a

7. Phytochemical study of Pilosocereus pachycladus and antibiotic-resistance modifying activity of syringaldehyde
ABSTRACT Pilosocereus pachycladus F. Ritter, Cactaceae, popularly known as "facheiro", is used as food and traditional medicine in Brazilian caatinga ecoregion. The plant is used to treat prostate inflammation and urinary infection. The present work reports the first secondary metabolites isolated from P. pachycladus. Therefore, the isolated compound 4-hydro

8. Interaction of β-Carbolines with DNA: Spectroscopic Studies, Correlation with Biological Activity and Molecular Docking
Quantitative interaction of twelve β-carboline derivatives with calf thymus deoxyribonucleic acid (ctDNA) using spectroscopic techniques was evaluated. The values of the binding constants (Kb) obtained for the complexes formed with the ctDNA ranged from 3.30 × 102 to 1.82 × 106 mol L−1, being the β-carbolines with the N,N-dimethylaminophenyl group at p

9. Cytotoxic Effect on Cancerous Cell Lines by Biologically Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles
The biosynthesis of nanoparticles has been proposed as an environmental friendly and cost effective alternative to chemical and physical methods. Silver nanoparticles are biologically synthesized and characterized were used in the study. The invitro cytotoxic effect of biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles against MCF-7 cancer cell lines were assesse

10. Antiproliferative activity of marine stingray Dasyatis sephenvenom on human cervical carcinoma cell line
AbstractBackgroundVenoms comprise mixtures of numerous bioactive compounds that have a wide range of pharmacologic actions. Toxins from venomous animals have attracted the attention of researchers because of their affinity for primary sites responsible for lethality and their efficacy at extremely low concentrations. The venoms of marine stingrays have not b

11. Propentofylline reverses delayed remyelination in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Objective The diabetic state induced by streptozotocin injection is known to impair oligodendroglial remyelination in the rat brainstem following intracisternal injection with the gliotoxic agent ethidium bromide (EB). In such experimental model, propentofylline (PPF) recently showed to improve myelin repair, probably due to its neuroprotective, antiinflamm

12. Genotypic and phenotypic detection of efflux pump in Rhodococcus equi
The req_39680 gene, associated to a putative efflux system, was detected in 60% (54/90) of R. equi isolates by PCR. The phenotypic expression of efflux mechanism was verified in 20% of the isolates using ethidium bromide. For the first time, the expression of efflux mechanism was demonstrated in R. equi.
