1. Failure Theories and Notch Type Effects on the Mechanical Properties of Jute-Glass Hybrid Composite Laminates
This study aimed to analyze the mechanical properties and damage characteristics in uniaxial tensile loading of two hybrid composite laminates consisting of an ortho-therephthalic polyester matrix reinforced by bidirectional jute fabrics and E-glass fibers, with different configurations and types of geometric discontinuities in the longitudinal section, char

2. Mechanical behavior and water absorption in sisal/glass hybrid composites
ABSTRACT This study aimed to assess the effect of hybridization on thermomechanical properties and water absorption of composite materials, by introducing sisal fiber tissue into the material. To that end, two composite material plates were manufactured, the first with five layers of E-glass reinforcement mat and the second with three layers of E-glass fiber

3. Influence of preheating and post-curing on a novel fiber-reinforced composite post material
Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of preheating and post-curing methods on diametral tensile strength (DTS), flexural strength (FS), knoop microhardness (KHN), and degree of conversion (DC) of an experimental fiber-reinforced composite (FRC). Specimens (30 wt% of 3-mm-short E-glass fiber, 22.5 wt% of methacrylated-based resin an

4. Finite element evaluation of the effects of curvature in Lamb waves for composites structural health monitoring
Abstract This work presents the effect of the high curvature to thickness ratio on the characteristics of Lamb Waves propagating over the skins of composite structures. It is accessed how the curvature on composite skins affects the group velocity of the symmetrical (S0) and asymmetrical (A0) wave modes. It is also accessed the gradient of curvature effect,

5. Mechanical Characterization of Basalt and Glass Fiber Epoxy Composite Tube
The application of basalt fibers are possible in many areas thanks to its multiple and good properties. It exhibits excellent resistance to alkalis, similar to glass fiber, at a much lower cost than carbon and aramid fibers. In the present paper, a comparative study on mechanical properties of basalt and E-glass fiber composites was performed. Results of app

6. Finite Element Analysis of IPN Reinforced Woven Fabric Composite
ABSTRACT A series of E-Glass fiber reinforced polyurethane (PU)/vinyl ester(VER) resin interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) composites were prepared. The Mechanical Properties like tensile, flexural and impact of IPN composite were studied. Results revealed that addition of PU increases the impact strength by 8.33%, 7.69%, 14.28%, 12.5%, 11.11% for the pro

7. Tensile properties of novel carbon/glass hybrid thermoplastic composite rods under static and fatigue loading
ABSTRACT Novel carbon/glass hybrid thermoplastic composite rods have been developed consisting of a PAN-based carbon fiber, an E-glass fiber, and a thermoplastic matrix. Three types of hybrid rods with different carbon/glass ratios were then fabricated. The surface and cross-sectional morphologies of the hybrid rods were observed using a digital microscope.

8. Evaluating the mechanical properties of E-Glass fiber/carbon fiber reinforced interpenetrating polymer networks
A series of vinyl ester and polyurethane interpenetrating polymer networks were prepared by changing the component ratios of VER (Vinyl ester) and PU (Polyurethane) and the polymerization process was confirmed with Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy. IPN (Inter Penetrating Polymer Network - VER/PU) reinforced Glass and carbon fiber composite laminates w

9. Estudo do comportamento mecânico de dutos de aço com reparos compósitos hibridos / Mechanical behavior of steel pipes repaired with a hybrid laminate
Worldwide, steel pipes play an important role in many industrial sectors. Meanwhile, any kind of duct is prone to suffer superficial damages due to corrosion. In this sense, techniques which allow fast and reliable repairs of ducts have a fundamental importance to increase the life cycle, avoid accidents, minimize environmental contaminations and to keep the

11. Fatigue damage mechanism and failure prevention in fiberglass reinforced plastic
Damaging of composite laminates was monitored during fatigue tests, revealing the formation and propagation stages for compressive, tensile, or alternate cyclic loading. Two different laminate stacking sequences, with different number of layers, were tested. The laminates consisted of E-glass fibers reinforced orthoftalic polyester resin (FGRP) shaped as mat

12. Behavior of conventional glass fibers in matrix of Portland cement modified with latex and with the addition of silica fume. / Comportamento das fibras de vidro convencionais em matriz de cimento Portland modificada com látex e adição de sílica ativa.
Portland cement mortar and concrete are durable building materials, relatively cheap and, despite they display a good rigidity and an adequate compressive strength, they have other deficient properties such as tensile strength, impact, fatigue, beyond low toughness and ductility. A considerable improvement of these properties can be obtained adding fibers, i
