1. Development and Validation of a Gas Chromatographic Method for the Quantification of Minor Alkaloids in Cocaine
The quantification of minor alkaloids in seized cocaine can provide information for drug profiling and law enforcement initiatives. This work presents the development and validation of an analytical method to quantitate minor alkaloids in cocaine samples using gas chromatography with flame ionization detector, after derivatization. The method was validated i

3. Derivatization of urinary benzolecgonine with diazomethane to verify cocaine exposure using chromatographic techniques / Derivação de benzoilecgonina urinária com diazometano para verificação da exposição à cocaína por técnicas cromatográficas
Cocaine abuse is now representing one of the greatest world public health problem. Great social interests have been generated with the using of toxicological analyses with the aim of detecting cocaine exposure to adopt prevention and control measures. Benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite found in urine, is one of the biological markers of cocaine exposure. H

4. Cocaine hydrochloride and benzoylecgonine have no in vitro inhibitory effect against Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
We evaluated 72 clinical Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates for in vitro susceptibility to cocaine hydrochloride and its metabolite benzoylecgonine and to penicillin, tetracycline, erythromycin, ceftriaxone, and ofloxacin. Although there was a wide range of susceptibilities to the antimicrobial agents, cocaine and its major metabolite, benzoylecgonine, had no de

5. Cocaine increases natural killer cell activity.
The administration of epinephrine to humans increases natural killer (NK) cell activity and numbers. If endogenous catecholamines regulate NK cells, then their activity should be increased by cocaine, an agent that potentiates endogenous catecholamines. We investigated the in vivo effect of cocaine on NK cell activity and on the distribution of lymphocyte su
