RESUMO

Environmental sustainability requires preventive or mitigating environmental impacts caused by industrial production activities, to preserve non-renewable mineral resources. In this sense, this work is to evaluate through experimental studies predominantly by laboratory testing and field application the use of steel slag produced by Arcelor Mittal Tubarão in the execution of the coating asphalt type surface treatment, to replace natural aggregates. With the survey it was possible to perform the experimental portion of Municipal Road link between the Cascata District (Serra Headquarters) to Queimados, between 2.1 km and 2.2 km in the municipality of Serra, Espírito Santo. The application of double surface treatment was carried out in February, the first assessment took place in March and given the request of the Dissertation Examining Committee, the second evaluation occurred in June 2011. After application of the double surface treatment occurred in the first and second evaluation the performance functional, with no fissures, cracks, breakdowns, exudation, failure nozzle, the coating surface treatment performed with added steel (steel slag). During the research it was possible to verify the current limitations of DNER technical standard - 262/94, which sets conditions for the industry slags to be used in the construction of road pavements. The general and specific conditions contained in this technical standard does not specify the pavement layer, suggesting such conditions for all layers (settlement of subgrade, sub-base, base and coating). Analyzing the results it was concluded that the Aggregate Steel (steel slag) produced by Arcelor Mittal Tubarão principle can be used to compose the coating surface treatment with good features and economy in the region of production of slag.
