RESUMO

The communication is considered an important vehicle in the care of a critical patient and its relatives. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a software program in the process of humanization inside a Hospital Unit. It is a study of exploratory and descriptive type, carried out during the visiting hours at the ICU of the Dr. Institute Jose Hospital. The study population was consisted of 40 family members, visitors and people who take care of the ill ones. It was divided in four phases: phase I: definition of the visitors desires. There were interviews carried out with the ICU patients relatives, aiming to detect the main familiar anxiety that could interfere in the psychological stability of the patients. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and had been studied which points were of bigger anxiety of the relative ones. Phase II: software development. Having the notes from phase I, a software program was idealized approaching the main relative and visitors anxiety from the unit. This instrument was created in a simple way by using the Macromedia program Flash version 8, to make possible its easy use and the full understanding of the information contained there. Phase III: the application of the tool. The software program was used in the visits schedule. The same program was placed in the entrance of the ICU, so that all relatives and the ones who take care of the ill ones could be able to use it for getting information on the patients. The instrument was installed in a portable computer of easy locomotion and easy access to the visitors. Phase IV: Perceptions related to the use of the software. At the end of the visiting time the participants of the study were interviewed about the use of the instrument and in what points it helped the understanding of the given information of the ICU. The results of the use of the software among the relatives had been observed and written down. As a methodology resource, we used a questionnaire with 10 closed questions but in way that the interviewees could question whatever they wanted to. The results showed that 100% of those investigated confirmed the applicability of the software in the implementation of the information and communication techniques and an aid during the visiting time. There were no difficulties in the use of instrument 72,5%. There were no doubts about the functioning of the device, 62.5% of interviewed ones. People felt 100% safer after getting the information. The information given by the professional team were understood easier to 97,5% of the people. Therefore, we conclude that a tool for improving the welcome of visitors and family members, improving the caretaking, the stability emotional and the acceptance of the therapy proposed.
