RESUMO

This study deals about the tourism market segmentation and how the hostelry sector can act in this process, based on the adventure tourism, in the sporting-recreational category of scuba diving, and the lodging needs of the tourists that practice such category. Through the analysis of the adaptation of the lodging structures to the diver needs, we intent to demonstrate the specific needs that this market niche can present in the lodging site. Likewise we tried to demonstrate that a lodging establishment located in a region which possesses a tourist vocation due to its natural potentialities, can increase its business rate through the offering of a product addressed and adequate to the tourists that seek the site. In this way, the lodging structures that can offer a quality and distinguished product and which seeks the maximization of the customers satisfaction, can obtain the customers loyalty and build long term relationships, which will certainly bring benefits to both parts and, through those strategies, promote the sustainability of their business. To reach those objectives, we carried out a quantitative research through a data survey of exploratory character using two different questionnaires as the gathering tools for the two actors of tourism: supply and demand. With the objective of identifying the behavior of the lodges supply with diving guests, we applied questionnaires with the operational managers of hotels and lodges with 10 or more rooms. The demand survey made possible the investigation of the profile, the sale potential, and the preferences and needs of the diving tourists in the acquisition of hostelling services. In this sense, this investigation identified how the bid of the accommodation structures that receive divers behaves and the specific needs of this kind of tourist in the accommodation site and concluded that this market niche is eager for products and services that may fulfill their necessities and desires.
