RESUMO

In the present work, the treatment of the wastewater originated in a plastic container (containing originally lubricant oil) recycling industry was investigated. The purpose of this work was to study the individual efficiency to treat the industrial effluent, mixture of the plastic container washing process wastewater and sanitary wastewater, by activated sludge process operating in sequencing batch reactors (SBR) and dissolved air flotation (DAF). The experiments for the SBR processes were performed in four completely mixed aerated reactors, which were used to test the influence of the sludge age and the original biomass. The extended aeration system showed the best efficiency in the reduction of the main pollutants, with a removal of DQO, DBO5 and turbidity equal to 92.9, 97.1 and 98.8 % respectively. Oil reduction using a original biomass adapted to treat oil effluents was more effective (oil reduction of 88.3 and 99.1 %). To evaluate the second process, DAF, it was used a batch type lab-scale dissolved air flotation installation (floteste). Initially, two different coagulants were tested, in different pH values of effluent and coagulant doses. With the most efficient coagulant it was built the coagulation diagram. Under the optimal conditions, DAF system obtained a removal efficiency of DQO, DBO5, O&G and turbidity of 90.2, 80.1, 99.0 and 99.6 % respectively. It is concluded that the activated sludge process and DAF are technologies with a high potential to treat the liquid effluent originated in a plastic bottles containing originally lubricant oil recycling industry, notwithstanding DAF system was the most adequate methods
