RESUMO

This research is constituted of an investigative analysis on the treatment of the speech in the teaching of the maternal language in the agricultural schools, starting from an investigation of the performance of the agricultural technician in the exercise of his function as Rural Agent, mainly in what concerns his communicative relationship with the rural producer, verifying how that process of interlocution happens among them, as well as detecting which the competences are requested in that communicative interaction and which the contributions of the discipline of Portuguese Language exists in those agents professional formation, students of the agricultural schools. Ruled in the qualitative research, the corpus that served as base for the present research was composed of semi- structured interviews with the rural producers in order to detect the effect of the communication between him and the Rural Agent; questionnaires with a group of students of the third year (high school) of the Escola Agrotécnica Federal de Crato CE in the verification about the way the teaching of the maternal language is proceeded and the consequent learning in what refers to the subject of the use of the oral language in the most several social situations; besides audiovisual registrations and free observations with the production of field diary for better obtaining the data. It was verified that the formal work with the speech is still despised by the school, because in the classes of Portuguese Language, the re is a prevalence of metalinguistic activities with exhausting grammatical rules, instead of exercises of speaking and listening, of reading and textual production, disconnecting the language of its socio- interactive character. With that posture, the teaching of the maternal language presents a gap, in the sense of development of the oral communicative competence of their graduating students, primordial requirement for its practice in the works with the extension and rural communication, what makes the school to lose the vision about its social function in the promotion of knowledge ruled in the formation of the High school students citizenship, mainly, in the professional field. This stud y took into account the authors bibliographical references as Marcuschi and Fávero in the field of the speech; Antunes, Bagno and Possenti as for the teaching of the maternal language; Bordenave and Freire in what refer to the Rural Communication.
