RESUMO

Empirical modeling and models based on transfer theory have been applied to estimate quantitative information from spectral data and from their relationships with canopy biophysical parameters. Both modeling strategies have been explored here in order to estimate structural and spectral information from extit{Eucalyptus} spp. (eucalipto) canopies. Correlations between biophysical and structural (D) data provided by FIBRIA enterprise (Capão Bonito headquarters) and TM/Landsat 5 spectral data of eucalipto canopies from two different dates have been evaluated. Results indicated that higher correlations have been observed to crown dimension and tree high with the NIR spectral data, independent on the image date. The spatial distribution of the biophysical data seemed to be consistent according to the stand ages. Statistical tests have been applied to evaluate the performance of the empirical modeling strategy. Results indicated significant performance differences considering the image date. The transfer model GRART (Geometrically Arbitrary Radiative Transfer) was applied in the direct mode to the eucalipto canopy spectral RF estimation in order to evaluate the their spectral characterization by GRART comparing to the spectral characterization carried out by the TM/Landsat 5 images. The GRART application was carried out considering and not considering the plantation line orientations. Results showed that GRART model has not presented satisfactory performance mainly in the visible bands. The best results of the GRART application has been achieved when the plantation line orientations are considered.
