RESUMO

The health workers and the workers in educational intitutions are a strategic population for the rubella controI, as was evidenced in the countries that adopted programs of controI of this disease. When the state of São Paulo (BraziI) started the rubella controI program, in 1992, the program proposed the immunization of this specific population, aiming the protection of the individuals and the controI of the virus circulation among these institutions. In order to avaliate the real need of this measures, this study examins the whole population of health and education workers of the town of Paulínia, São Paulo. From 764 workers, 647 (84,6%), tooke part in the study. 342 of these submitted to a sorology (HAI) to determinate one s immune state against rubella. We ve found a seropositivity of 97,4% (HAI >1 :8). With this results; we concluded that this population isn t strategic for the rubella controI in the state of São Paulo, and, probabily, in Brazil. We also made an analysis of the strategy of rubella controI adopted by the Health autorities in São Paulo
