RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaIuate the fatigue strength of Steldent, Dentorium and Biosil partiaI denture framework Co-Cr based alloys, as new and in mixture of new and previously casted alloy, submitted or not to convencional soldering procedure. Forty rods with 1,7mm in diameter were casted with oxi-acetilene torch for each of the alloys tested. Half specimens were obtained with new alloy and the others, as a misture ofhaIfnew and ha1fpreviously casted alloy. The soldering procedme was conducted in twenty specimens of each alIoy, half new and half refused alloy. The joints were obtained by Co-Cr welding rods and gas-oxygen torch. The solder gap selected was 0,3 mm and the segments were machined until a conicaI shaped end was achieved. The fatigue strength was conducted in a AMSLER (Alfred 1. Amsler &Co. - Shaflhausen - Schaweis - Switzerland) fatigue testing machine and the specimens were sujected to a tensile load of I kg and a ciclic stress amplitude of 2° . Afier failure, the cycles were registered and the fracture surface was examined with scannig electron microscope (S.E.M.) Related to fatigue strength, the results of this study indicated the folIowing: l-As new, Biosil was statistically stronger than Steldent and Dentori~ aIloys; 2-As new, there were no significant differences among soldered specimens, however all were statisticaIly weaker than the intact ones; 3-when refused, there were . no significant differences between Steldent and Dentorium and between Steldent and Biosil, however Biosil was statisticaIly stronger than Dentorium alloy; 4-As refused, the data of soldered specimens were statistically the same, but weaker than the intact ones; 5-there were no significant differences between new and refused specimens, soldered or not
