RESUMO

Little is know about the association of osseointegrated implant with a distal extension removable partial denture (DERPD). In view of that, a two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out to study the association of Branemark implant 10. O x 3.75 mm with DERPD, located in the dista! portion of the alveolar edge, acting as support. For this, 3 plane strain models were created, represented in sagital cut: Model A (MA) - Hemiarc containing the natural teeths 33 and 34, and absence of the teeths 35. 36 and 37; Model B (MB) - Similar to MA, with a conventional DERPD; Model C (MC) Similar to MB, with one implant in the retromolar area. The models were loaded with vertical forces of 50 N in finite element program, ANSYS 5.5. The stresses map showed for the maximum and the minimum von Mises stresses, the following values (Mpa), respectively: MA (39.668 and 0.005); MB 72.430 and 0.736) and MC (205.662 AND 0.057). The maximum displacement were (mm): MA (0.064); MB (0.107) and MC (0.099). The presence of DERPD (MB) requested more the support structures in comparison with the MA; the presence of implant (MC) allowed smaller stresses levels in the alveolar edge and similar levels in the tooth 34, support of RPD, when compared to the values of MB; and high levels of stress in the implant body. Thus. the presence of DERPD provided laraer stresses values for the support structures and that the presence of the implant provided support tor the DERPD base. reducina the intrusion on the fibromucosa. promotina smaller stresses levels in the subseauent portion of the edae
