RESUMO

The aim of this study was the evaluation of personality traits and their alterations in female patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Twenty patients were selected from the Ambulatory of Rheumatology of the University Hospital of Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul(UFMS). After the initial evaluation, the patients were reappraised at 3 and 6 months, due to psychiatric manifestations (specially personality disorders) and SLE activity. Besides the psychiatric and rheumatological evaluation, the standardized scales used were the Escala Fatorial de Ajustamento Emocional/Neuroticismo(EFN), to measure personality traits and their alterations, and the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI). In all evaluations there was no significant relationship between personality alterations and SLE activity. By EFN scores, there were 6 Patients (30%) with probable Personality Disorder diagnosis, but only 2 (10%) had this diagnosis in psychiatric evaluation. No typical personality pattern or prevalent Personality Disorder was found in the sample. On the contrary, it was verified that SLE patients can present variable types of behaviour and psychiatric symptoms; Moderate Depressive Episode was the most frequent psychiatric diagnosis (65%).
