RESUMO

This thesis starts from a characterization of the Environmental Crisis and its different interpretations by the Human Sciences, considering the ways by which the Environmental Crisis is perceived and valorized by populations interviewed through researches done with populations around the world and from Brazil. It is considered also how different perceptions and given answers in opinion inquiry are influenced by wider contexts, like those concerning to the new configurations of the contemporary capitalism and the new cultural forms produced by these transformations in the capitalist world. This thesis includes an examination of a particular situation, realized through a research done in an environmental hazard area (i.e., the drainage-basin of the Piracicaba River). It includes also the interpretation of the datas obtained in this examination, taking in account the context of changes in the culture and in the capitalismo
