RESUMO

This research evaluates the importance of cooperation in the development of honey yields in the city of Cassilândia, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The honey produce in that city is of excellent quality and that fact makes it highly competitive on both national and international market. The tropical weather in the region is perfect for honey production, with vast and varied vegetation suitable for the yielding of honey and its derivated products. Since their expectation on the international market is excellent, the honey producers from Cassilandia has been enhancing technology and investing in knowledge and pofissionalization. The apiculture is today an excellent oportunity of investiment for the familiar agriculture because it is a great chance of profiting in a short time and with a few resources using the environmental potentiality and the capable productivity. This way it is starting a local productive arrangement in the city with really good sustainable development expectations for the producers involved in it. It has been verified during the visits to the apicultors that there is a good relationship between them and that cooperation has significantly been improving the activity and it has sustained the great performance of the apiculture in the city. It was also verified that the producers level of technical instruction varies a lot. Some of them have technological instalations whereas others need basic orientation. Thats why cooperation and partnership with the UNIAPIC (the local apicultor association) are of fundamental importance to maintain and improve the production. The association is indicated by apicultors from Cassilândia as an important tool to make the activity more powerful besides enabling them to take courses, get information, improve technology and turn them stronger in negotiating the production. The final result of this study shows that the cooperation between apicultors from the city of Cassilandia was essential to the good performance of the sector in that region, as well as it helped overpower the common difficulties encountered during production.
