RESUMO

This work had as worry the meaning of gender among children at a school in Campinas town, a large city in São Paulo State. The research happened in 2006 and had as object: four basic educacion classrooms, two of first grade and two of second grade. The conclusion is, belong the possible interpretations, that when boys and girls had been participating in oriented activities, on the whole, they have demonstrating distant sensibility of genders. However, when they got out from institutionalized situations, their interactions expressed a sensibility less distant between boys and girls. From it, we can understand better the boys and girls separation inside of school institutions. We hope that this study will help to surpass the asymmetry of genders that there are in the school daily
