RESUMO

This work analyzes the conceptions of some Brazilian eugenicists doctors on paternity and homosexuality, in works published between the decades of 1920 and 1940. For that, we investigated, in the first place, the theoretical influences received by these doctors and their consequent performances in the legal medicine and the psychiatric fields. The analysis of these authors? works evidenced the differences of gender, race and class in the medical approaches on sexuality and reproduction. Following, we researched paternity through two lines: on one hand, through the hereditariness, which was referred especially to the reproductive possibility of the sexual act, and, on the other hand, to the investigation of paternity. Finally, we focused on how homosexuality was treated in these works and, notably, into the association between homosexuality and familiar morality. We concluded that the doctors? approach on paternity and homosexuality was guided by a wider debate based on nation and the type of Brazilian that was expected for the country. In this sense, man?s role in reproduction was seen, essentially, through the point of view of the sexual act that was a child?s generator and the medical interventions occurred, above all, in the regulation of the heterosexual masculine sexuality. Homosexuality, by its turn, considered as an illness and viewed as a deviant sexual behavior, becomes, to the family, a target for medical discourses that designate the education as a way to prevent it. In both subjects, the medical approach was not homogeneous, but punctuated by differentiations of gender, race and class
