RESUMO

Due to the need of increasing the productivity in the agricultural section the use of fertilizers in the production of food was increased, causing among other things the salinization of the soil, the consequences for the humankinds health and the environmental impact that are not totally known. This work had as objective evaluate the effect of different levels of soil salinity promoted by the use of the fertirrigation, in the fenologic variables as well as in the production of the tomato cultivated in greenhouse; and to study the evolution of the salinization of the soil cultivated with tomato under two types of fertirrigation handling, the traditional one, based on the absorption march of culture nutrients and the one based on the monitoring of soil solution, evaluating the use of porous capsules, as extractors of soil solution, seeking the control of the salinization. The experiment was led in two stages, being the first one developed in the Laboratory of Soils and the second one accomplished in plastic greenhouse, both located in the Department of Rural Engineering of ESALQ/USP, in Piracicaba. The first stage consisted of preliminary tests that enabled the construction of artificial curves of salinity, seeking accomplishment of the process of artificial salinization of the soil. In the second stage the effect of the different initial levels of soil salinity and applied handlings were evaluated. The initial levels of salinity used were: S1 = 1,5 dS m-1; S2 = 2,5 dS m-1; S3 = 3,5 dS m-1; S4 = 4,5 dS m-1; S5 = 5,5 dS m-1 and S6 = 6,5 dS m-1. The statistical test was in randomized blocks, with four repetitions, arranged in 6 x 2 factorial design. It was verified that the methodology used for artificial salinization of the soil and maintenance of the salinity levels was efficient. The results revealed that there were no differences between the used handlings and the revenue of the culture; the threshold salinity tolerated by cultivating tomato Débora Plus, was superior to the values mentioned in the literature with the use of saline waters, and the salinity indexes used did not interfere in the acceptance of the product by the consumer. There was a reduction in the consumption of water for the different salinity levels studied and the second handling caused a reduction in the consumption of fertilizers until the level of electric conductivity of 3,5 dS m-1.
