RESUMO

In this dissertation, the experiences generated from encounters with the cavalo marinho play - a popular Brazilian folk tradition of the Northern Mata Zone of Pernambuco State - are approached both critically and reflexively. The aim of this research was the appropriation of elements of this game to be used in professional training procedures of actor-dancers. Thus, this analysis includes training procedures of the Peleja Group, which I take part in as an actor-dancer. This training is the outcome of the intersection of the corporality of cavalo marinho with the methodology used by the Lume group (Interdisciplinary Center for Theatrical Research - UNICAMP). Based on practical experiences involving body work and field experiences, I take this opportunity to discuss the concepts of game, play, training, traditional culture and tradition. During the research, I kept a strong flow of exchanges with the players and the dense social context which the game is deep-rooted. Besides the present text, this investigation resulted in two products: a set of practices and games involving elements of cavalo marinho (organized on a DVD) and a video named Na Mata tem, an artistic work that subjectively locates the play and the players who make it possible
