RESUMO

This work studies the configuration of the genre relationships and the historical conditions that made the emergence of women with collegiate degrees possible. Meanwhile looking to pinpoint the ways that the collegiate experience marked the lives of the women who had access to this level of teaching, in the focal period. The text is constructed around the stories of women who entered the university and became professionals in Teresina between the decades of 1930 and 1970. Oral depositions are utilized as the principal source of information while print sources (newspapers, magazines, scholastic records, official documents and statistical data) are used to cross reference and articulate upon the subject in order to establish a dialogue between the individual and the community. This path contextualizes the time that women spent entering into and establishing themselves in the world of higher education in Teresina while developing their professional careers. The scholastic process of the interviewed and their insertion into the higher education system in Teresina are also highlighted in this work. Also highlighted are the feminine and masculine discussions that, in the press, propitiate visibility of the female university students. The relationship of power between those interviewed and their families relating to feminine education is also an object of analysis in this work. This work also looks to, through the depositions, show some changes that have occurred in the daily life of the interviewed after enrolling in the university; such as the development of their professional trajectory. Finally, the feminine and masculine discussions, driven by the newspapers, and what the feminine professionalization signified is analyzed with the intention of delineating the image of the women while they are professionals
