RESUMO

The energy generated by the sun, land of endless time scale, can be used as a source of heat (photothermal aspect) and as the light source. The photothermal solar energy can be used to heat fluids through flat collectors. Previous studies (04,05), developed in Brazil, indicate that the adoption of this solution for heating water would be very advantageous for energy companies. The bioclimatic architecture is another type of application of solar energy, and enables the adoption of architectural and urban solutions tailored to specific conditions of each place. It is called the photovoltaic solar energy to electrical energy obtained by converting light (photons) from the Sun This conversion is made by cells that make up the solar photovoltaic modules. Currently, photovoltaic industries around the world adopt the silicon as raw material, but still ongoing research on other materials, which enable the reduction of production costs and conversion efficiencies satisfactory. The amount of incident radiation in Brazil is a very encouraging for the use of solar energy. Also encouraging is the recent reduction in prices that has experienced photovoltaic modules, and the growth of the values obtained for the conversion efficiency, especially for monocrystalline silicon cells. This suggests the possibility of solving some localized problems of infrastructure in the country, with the help of this technology. Examples of this approach are presented in this paper.
