RESUMO

Access to the information available in the World Wide Web calls for technologies that are out of reach for low-income citizens in countries such as Brazil. The shared use of technological resources comes up as a strategy rendering informational inclusion feasible. Given such a context, this dissertation aimed to study the access of information in telecentres sponsored by corporative social responsibility programs in Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) through multiple case studies in four telecentros, using semistructured interviews with coordinators and users, and direct observation, especially in the use of computers to access the information . Data analysis, through qualitative and quantitative approaches, was based on categories as available resources, information content, capacity building and sustainability. The results showed that the available physical resources e fall short of demand in existing low-income communities; sustaining the telecentre is guaranteed for the duration of support from business and telecentres do not develop practices for its sustainability. The study also found the interest from users in information related to school tasks, news and job seeking, and the use of web surfing and searching tools was found to be untroubled. The telecentres do not base their work on the development of skills associated with the needed competences to deal with the available information. The study proposes integrated actions aimed at the delivery of physical resources, and the development of skills and relevant content, so that telecentres come to be locus of true social inclusion.
