Influência de modificações interfaciais nas propriedades mecânicas de compósitos de polipropileno com farinha de madeira

RESUMO
Among numerous fibers of commercial interest used as fillers and reinforcement in thermoplastics, wood waste fibers (WWF), mostly known as wood flour, can replace mineral fillers such as talc, CaCO3 and fiberglass with great advantage. Wood-plastics composites (WPCs) technology includes concepts of compatibility and processing and yet presents technical challenges in grade formulation and stabilisation of the composite system. In the present work, a brief overview of the latest developments in WPCs processing technology is discussed in the light of technical characteristics and performance of this novel class of thermoplastics composites in emerging applications. Some investigations on compatibilizing efficiency of the polypropylene modified with maleic anhydride (PP-MAH) are presented for polypropylene formulations compounded with pinus wood waste. The influence of the cellulosic filler and the efficiency of compatibilizers on thermal, mechanical and morphology of the composite system was evaluated through stiffness measurements and degree of cristallinity in regard to the resin intrinsic properties. Electron microscopy micrographs illustrate in great detail the filler wetting by the resin in the presence of the anhydride maleic in the polypropylene used as compatibilizer suggesting that sterification reactions may take place at the wood-polymer interface. The significant increase in the degree of interfacial adhesion on composites of PP/WF with the addition of PP-MAH was confirmed through the dynamic-mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), using an adhesion factor A as evaluation parameter for filler-polymer interfacial interactions, based on the relative mechanical loss (Tan ) values of the composites as a function of temperature.
