RESUMO

This work presents the development of the informational and preliminary design phases to friction brakes applied to urban vehicles of low cost. The design development of the brake systems for vehicles with less or zero pollutants emissions, with high efficiency depends strongly of the control systems, dirigibility conditions and mainly of the solutions to the power generation and storage system. The automotive industries often promote the insertion of new technologies to mechanical parts and electromechanically systems. However, the concepts and the improvements are oftentimes secrets or sheltered by patents. In this way is developed a procedure for design mechanical brakes from design methodology techniques. From the informational design, that include the technical and economical feasibilities, it was made the technical informational extraction, whose objective it was to identify the characteristics more important to a brake system from costumer view. In this phase, the first matrix of QFD (Quality Function Deployment) or design quality matrix was developed. The superior matrix called \"Contradiction Matrix\" brings technical problems that will be resolved during the conceptual or preliminary design phases. The innovative conception of a brake system depends on a set of variables and parameters that include considerations about work envelope, static and dynamic conditions of the vehicle and as example, the propulsion and power generation of the system. As result of the design view it was developed a support program for design of the friction brakes considering the machine elements approach and using a simplified model it is possible to estimate of the temperature profile in the friction material during brake process, considering future applications in hybrid vehicles. The program was oriented by design methodology techniques to support the decision-making, once that the urban vehicles mentioned in this work can be classified as \"consumer good\".
