RESUMO

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate bone repair around dental implants placed into immediate extraction sockets, associated or not with local application of a combination of platelet derived growth factor (pDGF) and insulin like growth factor - 1 (IGF-1) on the imp1ant surface. Eight adult dogs were used. Under sodium pentobarbithal inserted bilatera1ly. Before implantation, two of the four implants received a single application of 5~g/m1 ofPDGF and IGF-1 delivered in 0,10 m1 of 4% methylcellulose gel. During the experimental period a 2% calcein green solution was administered O, 7, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days after implant insertion. The animals were sacrificed by a lethal injection of sodium penthobarbital in the periods of 3, 8 and 12 weeks after implant insertion. Undecalcified sections were obtained, submitted to histometric analysis and the results analysed by statistical t test (a=O,05) and ANOV A in intragroups analyses (a=0,05). Statistically different results between test and control groups (22,4 i: 13,7 and 17,2 i: 13,6%, respectivelly) were observed for bone/implant contact at 3 weeks timepoint and for intensity of labelled new bone between 3 and 12 weeks (127,8 i: 42,59 and 56,7 i: 26,34, gray scale values) intragroup for test group. It was concIuded that the combination of PDGFIIGF-1 at present experimental conditions activelly took part of the inicial phase of bone repair.
