RESUMO

This dissertation was written for the Masters degree in Education, within the line of research "Public Policies for Curriculum and Assessment", which in turn, is part of the research group Public Policies for Curriculum and Assessment PPGE of UNIVALI. The theme of the study is the visual and behavioral characteristics of teachers, how these can add to the professional image of teacher, in the perspective of university students, and whether this constitutes one of the dimensions of the teaching profession. Some indicators highlighted by the students enabled an analysis of the visual elements that could be included in the professional marketing planning of university teachers, adapting the areas of practice of their profession to a more appropriate image, thereby promoting a relationship of greater trust in their communication with the students. The theoretical basis for this study required an understanding of knowledge of nonverbal communication, visual language, and the complexity of being a teacher in todays environment, in which the professional activity of teaching requires more than technical, ethical and procedural knowledge. A qualitative methodological approach was used, applying a questionnaire to graduate students from the campus of Itajaí UNIVALI and Camboriú. The survey was answered by 950 students from eighteen courses (Business Administration, Architecture, Cosmetology and Esthetics, Game Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Law, Nursing, Speech and Hearing Therapy, Photography, Food, Nutrition, Psychology; Tourism and Hospitality, International Relations, and Physiotherapy). The students who took part in the survey saw caring for the professional image of teachers as very important, as they saw this aspect as a component of the teachers professionalism, and as such, an aspect that influences the process of empathy and motivation for the classes. The most important elements, in the students opinions, were teachers style of dress and professional attitude
