RESUMO

The object of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of the application of silt from the sewers as a source of nitrogen (N) and vinhaça* as a potassium source (K) in the sugar-cane crop and compare it with the efficiency of the use of potassium and nitrogen from mineral sources to the cane yield and technological characteristics. Besides that it was also researched the amount of heavy metals (on the groud and in the plants) during two consecutive years right after the treatment with those residues. The experiment was made in a Latossolo Vermelho (type of soil), situated in the City of Pontal, SP. The variety of sugar-cane used was the SP 81-3250. The evaluated treatments were: silt of sewer with 100% of N; silt of sewer with 200% of N; Vinhaça with 100% of K; Vinhaça with 200% of K; silt of sewer + vinhaça with 100% of N and K; silt of sewer + vinhaça with 200% of N and K; Test (mineral sources). The treatments were carried through random blocks in 3 repetitions for each. The productivity of sugar and colmo** of the sugar-cane was kept when N and K were supplied by the silt of sewer and vinhaça, respectively. The sugar-cane type named cana-soca*** bests its normal cane yield with greater amounts of colmo and of sugar when the residues were separately complemented with mineral sources. The low quantity in the ground and in the plants allow us to conclude that the used residues, do not present (at least until now) high risks of contamination of the system groundplant. *Vinhaça: byproduct made when alcohol is made from sugar-cane. **Colmo: area in the sugar-cane between 2 consecutive knots in the stem. ***Cana-soca: the sugar-cane in the ground two years after first time it was cut
