RESUMO

Little attention has been devoted to the composition of the acidic fractions of the Brazilian petroleum. On the other hand, during the course of our previous studies, we observed the occurence of a considerable concentration of naphthenic acids in Cabiunas crude oil. The above facts have motivated our group to start a research line on the study of the acidic fractions of distillation products which were of commercial interest. In this thesis we describe our efforts in identifying acidic fraction from Cabiunas aviation kerosine, using GC/MS analyses. The constituents were identified by comparison of their mass spectra with those in a data system library (NBS-Revel, 38791 MS) and by comparison of retention time and mass spectra with those of pure standards. Structural suggestions for some constituents that showed different mass spectra from those in the data library system and synthetic specimens were mainly based on their fragmentation patterns. Additionally, in the second part of this work we have synthesized the sesquiterpene 4,7-dimethyl-8-isopropyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene 43 and we have tried to synthesize 2,5-dimethyl-8-isopropyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene 44, which will be used in the near future as standards for the hydrocarbon derivatives from the acidic fraction of kerosine from Braziliam petroleum. The acid intermediates g-(5-isopropyl-2-methyl)phenylbutyric acid 35 and g-p-tolylvaleric acid 36, obtained in the above synthetic routes were methylated and coinjected with the derivatized acidic fraction. Although their fragmentation patterns were not detected, the ion at m/e 119 was of diagnostic importance to suggest that compounds possessing a similar basic skeleton were present in the studied petroleum fraction (Qav). Cabiunas and Basha (with less acidic components) Qav were compared, revealing that they differ in their acidic contents and chromatographic profile, consequently possessing differents compositions.
