ESTIGMATIZAÇÃO DO USO DE ÁLCOOL E OUTRAS DROGAS ENTRE PROFISSIONAIS DE SAÚDE DE JUIZ DE FORA

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Individuals with substance dependence are commonly seen as dangerous or violent, but if people with this condition continue to be associated with these characteristics they can be adversely affected by rejection, by their reluctance to seek help professional for fear of stigmatization and exclusion. OBJECTIVE: the objective of this study is to assess aspects involved instigmatization process, such as moralization and social distance, attributed to the behavior of alcohol and other drugs among health professionals from various departments of the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. METHOD: The study included 183 health professionals, with 51 of mental health services and the remainder to general hospitals. The instruments used were self-reported questionnaire social demographic, Social Tolerance Scale, Questionnaire About Model Perceived Health Problems and vignettes that assessed aspects involved with stigmatization such as perception of danger, distance moralization of social and drug use. For purposes of description and any comparisons and statistical inferences were used scalar data numeric and categorical were computed where all information using the statistical software SPSS , following exploratory inherent in the objectives of the study. We also used measures association to examine the relationship between each variable and the type of service as well as to compare the substances in each variable. To complement the study, we used multiple regression to analyze which variables explain the social distance. RESULTS: There was that the health conditions most frequently as a model for moral total sample, respectively, were: smoking, addiction to marijuana and cocaine, AIDS, alcoholism and a lesser percentage, Obesity. With respect to social distance, the statement that had more contact or intimacy, "Having a family member married to that person," corresponds to the statement with greater desire for social distance. Considering the explanatory model for social distance in relation to alcoholics, the variables professional, friendly and compassion were significant for this model specifically. With about the desire for social distance of cocaine addicts, the explanatory variables sympathy, belief in recovery and reactions emotional such as fear and desire to depart were significant for this model. Finally, to the explanatory model of social distance for those dependent on marijuana, the explanatory variables significant were willing to walk away and wish to help. The motivation to treat the problem was associated with shorter distance social in all models. CONCLUSION: Reliance on substance is a condition perceived more negatively by it is imperative to reorganize the service and training professionals to meet the needs of patients and expected results
