RESUMO

Using a methodology based on yield and purity of extracted product predicted by the ASOG group contribuition method, the performance of solvent mixtures in multicomponent aromatics extraction was studied. Better results were found for the mixture of N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) with diethylene glycol (DEG) when compared with sulfolane, requiring lesser quantities of solvent and energy for the same production of aromatics. The mixture of N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) with monoethylene glycol (MEG), used in some commercial processes, showed to be inferior to the mixture DMF/DEG and to sulfolane. A new cell for the determination of liquid-liquid equilibrium experimental data was built, and data obtained for eight ternary systems involving n-heptane, benzene, p-xylene and the solvent combinations furfural/DEG, NMP/DEG, DMF/DEG and DMF/monoethanolamine (MEA) at 30 and 50 DEGREES C. Neww ASOG and UNIFAC group interaction parameters for the prediction of liquid-liquid equilibria were estimated for the pairs aliphatic-solvene, aromatic-solvent, and solvent-solvent. A slightly better representation of liquid-liquid equilibria was obtained using ASOG than using UNIFAC.
