RESUMO

Understanding in greater depth the effect of temperature on the performance of photovoltaic modules submitted to varied climatic conditions is the purpose of this work. With this objective, diverse models proposed in literature were studied and the five parameter model was defined as the most appropriate for characterization of photovoltaic cells. The conceptual base being established, an easy use tool was developed, which permitted understanding the behavior of the module from the climatic data, simulated or collected in the field, and also obtention of the final energy provided in a given interval of time. The tool was initially applied for tracing the characteristic curve of a monocrystalline silicon technological module. The comparison between the traced curves with the curves supplied by the makers, consolidated the model and the methodology adopted. Next, the performance of a photovoltaic module fabricated by monocrystalline silicon technology was evaluated, if by chance it were to be installed in Recife and Araripina, to represent the coastal region and the Brazilian SertÃo of Pernambuco, respectively. The results obtained confirmed the expectation generated from previous studies, and identified that the option to install the module in Araripina instead of Recife, implied an increase in performance of 10%, due to distinct local climatic conditions, that are very significant for large scale energy generating systems. Finally, simulations were carried out for polycrystalline silicon, amorphous silicon and fine film cell technological modules. The consistency of the results confirmed the use of the engineering tool for these technologies, and permitted the evaluation of temperature effect on the performance of the modules
