RESUMO

The aim of this study was to describe and characterize the reproductive ecology of Dyckia encholirioides var. (Gaud) Mez. encholirioides, in Florianópolis, SC. The flowering occurs from the end of the winter until spring. The duration of the flowering in a single individual averaged 23 days. The anthesis of the flowers occurred along the day and presented a duration of 1.5 days. The species presents floral attributes linked to melittophily, producing small volume of nectar in the flowers. The frequency of visitation of bees from the species: Xylocopa brasilianorum, Apis mellifera and Trigona spinipes confirms this observation; however in spite of the low frequency of flowers visits by the hummingbird Thalurania glaucopis he made legitimate visits to the flowers of D. encholirioides. Based on the results of the treatments of pollination and the ration P/O, it can be concluded that the species presents self-incompatibility, forming fruit with fertile seeds only in treatments of cross-pollination and open pollination. There is an interaction between the ant Acromyrmex aspersus with the inflorescence and infrutescence of D. encholirioides. These ants cut to parts of the flowers and fruits in development and carrey to their nest for the culture of fungus, and thus affect negatively the sexual reproduction of the bromeliad.
