RESUMO

The frequent appearance of changes in voice among teachers has led researchers to consider the preventive interventions as of great importance. Despite the high rate of change in teacher s voice, few studies have evaluated and discussed measures taken to prevent and treat these professionals in dysphonia. This study aimed at large, review and discuss the development of a program to improve teacher s voice. This is a case study quantitative/qualitative, with 26 teachers from a public school in the municipality of Campinas (Sao Paulo). The proposed program for the improvement of voice was composed by: laryngological assessment, self-administered questionnaire, preventive intervention in group-therapy, speech pathology evaluation pre/post-intervention and interviews. It was observed that 92.3% (24) reported some type of difficulty related to voice, 53.8% (14) of teachers, said vocal problems. In three, of the ten teachers who underwent the assessment laryngological, were found laryngeal disorders. The difficulty of 84.6% (22) of the participants was related to the need to raise the intensity of voice conversation or because of the indiscipline of students, and/or competition with internal and external noise. In the first and last meeting, the subjects recorded three "vehicle-phrases" which were subjected to acoustic analysis and perceptual evaluation. The data were subjected to statistical analysis. It was the accession to the speech, almost exclusively with vocal complaints from teachers and/or laryngeal disorders. Thirteen teachers participated in the program to improve voice, however, only five completed it. Even with a limited number of subjects, this study indicates that the program developed to improve voice contributed to the improvement in articulation and modulation of speech of teachers. It is necessary to conduct controlled studies to investigate whether the preventive effect of this program. The prevention of voice changes and health promotion of the teacher, it need occur effectively, contextualized and evidence-based
