RESUMO

The purpose of this study is to analyse the umbanda into the catholic and kardecista speeches in Juiz de Fora between 1940 and 1965; and from that, understand the introduction of umbanda religion in the juizforana society, since the moment the religion wins more visibility in the city. Perceiveing how the Catholicism and Spiritualism thoughts act on the way umbanda was formed during time in Juiz de Fora. Trying to recapture part of Umbandas history, because its speech and its way to be presented into religion space are two faces of the same process. With a looking for nowadays, the central theory of this work is that the speeches and practices, from Catholicism, the religion with more followers; and from Spiritualism, a religion with a big reputation in Juiz de Fora, for at least since 50th decade, have directly influenced the hidden character and the subterranean vitality of the umbanda in Juiz de Fora
