RESUMO

The present work is about the production of meanings in the magazines market. Since the years 1960 in Brazil, there is an ongoing process of segmentation of magazines, leaded by the expectation of reaching specific audiences. Through a research on newsstand, it was established that one of the main axes of this segmentation process is the division of the audience in categories of gender, especially masculine and feminine. From the study of two publications from the same publisher, the TRIP Magazine, masculine, and the TPM, feminine, a reflection is made over the factors that construct the specificity of this publications in the market, and also over the differences and similarities established between them and elaborated by their producers. The concepts of gender and market are the cornerstones of this dissertation. The analysis is based on the magazines contents, producer interviews and data collected from the publishers electronic page. The dissertation is divided in four chapters and a final assessment. The first chapter is about the nwesstand, the most important categorizations found in it, and the spatial distribution of magazines in this place. The second one tells the history of TRIP and TPM, and reflects on the content of the reviews. In the third chapter the producer?s conceptions over the magazines is presented, and the forth one is composed by data and reflections on the market issue, and how it associates to the production of meanings in the considered magazines
