RESUMO

The present study aimed to analyze the curriculum of the courses of Librarianship in the Northeast Region of Brazil, identifying the relation of contents whose approach converging to social issues in some way leading to Social Inclusion. It was a documental research, of indirect observation whose methodology moved the border between a descriptive research and exploratory one, quali-quantitative, in which the analyses of the content was the technique used for the interpretation of data and their results. In theory, the study sought to contextualize the concepts of Inclusion, Integration and Social Exclusion, from an analysis of social, political-economic and cultural context that mark regional inequalities and the main human development indices that characterize the region. The curriculum and its ideological potential of social and cultural reproduction was the main theoretical approach that has underpinned the analysis, from the concepts of education system, teaching methods and habitus. Concepts of information literacy and information were also briefly discussed as well as some historical and structural aspects of librarianship, the history of vocational training in the context of Brazil and the Northeast and the contemporary reality of the courses. Data collection was done through web-based recovery of political pedagogic plans and curriculum matrices of the courses. In some cases, because of virtual unavailability, these documents were obtained through contact via email with the coordinators of the collegiate course or through local visits. In possession of documentation, it was excelled in the curriculum matrices the disciplines of the binding cycle that reflected the priority social contents. From the framework of the disciplines selected in areas defined by the National Curriculum Guidelines, the contents were analyzed based on their respective notes and bibliographies. The analysis involved the contend of the compulsory subjects offered by the population of the nine Federal Universities of the Region, having been confronted with such content to the principles delineated by the National Curriculum Guidelines and related political-pedagogical projects that emphasize the themes to be considered in the courses, in view of the profile, the competencies and skills set as goal for training of future librarians. The results showed that there are no statements that directly fit any discipline as being specific on Social Inclusion. Nonetheless, an average of 13% of the mentioned compulsory subjects presented proximity to the issue, being the theoretical approach the most recurring, completing 65% of the subjects studied. The significant concentration of the disciplines of social content was identified as an object of study offered among the first three semesters of courses. It was also observed that the curricula studied showed a similar behavior in regard to the percentage of quantitative disciplines and workload offered to social contents. This way, it was concluded that the teaching of Librarianship in Northeastern IFES has not yet manifested itself formally to train librarians with the required profile and competence to act in favour of social inclusion in the extent of the deficiencies identified in the social reality of the region.
