RESUMO

Unfortunately, researches involving the use of blocks set up without mortar and interlock have not been common. Tijolito is a soil-cement block, which can be used as a masonry component without the use of mortar in the horizontal joints. The wall stabilization is managed after the filling of the holes disposed in a way to fulfill this purpose, with fluid mortar, which will form a series of mini-columns along the wall. Owing to the interest in the study of the behavior of walls built with "Tijolito . Sistema Andrade Gutierrez de Construcao Industrializada", relating their height to their slenderness ratio, fifty-three tests have been carried out with walls from 50 to 260 centimeters high. Results indicating that the collapsing compression load of a wall is related to the ¥â ratio (ratio between the height end width of the wall) are presented. Maps showing the cracking of walls are presented with the purpose of showing the typology of their distribution. The dimensional features of brick . Tijolitos . are shown with the purpose of getting across to readers the quality of this material. The structural safety of the walls has been evaluated by methods of allowable stresses and methods of ultimate strength according to the British Standards. Results of experimental tests in wall panels with different heights, and comments on them, are also presented. It can be concluded that crude earth producing pressed soil- cement blocks interlocked as mortise and tenon present high quality, both on the blocks and the walls built with them. Finally, according to the objective proposed, an evaluation of the structural behavior of the constructive system is carried out, based on the test results and application of Brazilian and foreign standards.
