RESUMO

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of a program of physical activities on emotional states of 20 college students based upon their oral repports. As a measure of emotional states we used POMS (Profile of Mood States). This version was specially translated and adapted for the purpose of this work. POMS was applied before, after and at each 15 days during the program of physical activities. During pre-test the subjects filled in a questionnary; during the period of the accomplishment of the program of physical activities the subjects also filled in a weekly ?journal? and participated on an interview at the end of the program. Physical activities were based on Lowen?s and Iwanowicz?s works and lasted 13 consecutive weekly sessions. Data were analyzed under statistical (univariate and multivariate analysis) and qualitative aspects. POMS results show that; the group of subjects presented a more coherent behavior indicated through a lesser dispersion on post-test means; there were significant changes in more than half of the variables; there were two different groups, one composed by Tension, Anger, Fatigue, Confusion and Depression and the other formed by Vigor and Friendly factors; Tension, Vigor and Confusion factors had significant statistically changes from pre to post-test; Tension factor explains most of the pre/post-test variability...
