RESUMO

This work mainly discusses the theory and application of three analyses based on the concept of exergy. In a chapter 4 called Estudo de Caso an exergetic and thermoeconomic analysis on a real power generation system are carried out, and an environmental analysis on that system is executed in the chapter 5. This real power generation system is the gas turbine unit LM-6000 GE installed in the Rio Madeira Power Plant, located in Porto Velho, Rondônia, Brazil. This dissertation also makes a review about exergy through a chronological history, and shows results of a bibliographic analysis on exergy by three graphics, where one of them is related to Brazilian results. This bibliographic analysis quantifies the number of published works all over the world since the decade of 1940 until 2005, and the Brazilian analysis quantifies the number of thesis and dissertations published from 1990 until 2004. The exergetic analysis shows the exergetic values of every flow, and quantifies and identified the irreversibilities and losses for each component of the system. Since this study is developed on an existing system, the exergoeconomic analysis quantifies and identified costs for each flow based on just fuel cost, and the capital cost of all components represents sunk costs, capital cost is ignored for this evaluation. In the last stage of this work, environmental analysis indicates two important exergetic indexes of environmental impacts. These indexes aid to assess the environmental performance of the studied system and compare it with other power plants performance.
