RESUMO

This work has the aim of making an electromagnetic analysis of the Starting Motor using a two-dimension Finite Element Method application. For computer calculation, a commercial magnetic analysis software called FLUX 2D is employed. The Starting Motor is a direct current motor with permanent magnets on the stator and its nominal power is 1.1 KW. The method essence consists on transforming differential equations on an algebraic equation set using a device geometry discretization on small geometric elements. The values concerning to the motor rotational losses, armature electrical and brushes resistance constitute input date for the model and they had gotten from laboratory tests. The method gives motor electromagnetic characteristics such as : magnetic torque and flux, flux density and magnetic field. The two-dimension model were regulated to correct the armature and magnets length differences. To validated the Finite Element model, laboratory tests were done, their results were compared to simulated ones and they were closed. After that, it was possible to analyse the motor s magnetic characteristics and to identify magnetic saturation regions. At the end, geometric changes influences on motor performance were investigated. Using the calculates results, we notice the air gap thickness does not alter magnetic torque, otherwise increasing on housing thickness and magnets width provokes significant improvement on motor performance
