RESUMO

Voice over IP (VoIP) technology allows transmission of voice packets on an IP network. A converged network for voice and data results in cost savings as well as fewer networks to manage. However, the addition of VoIP protocols increases the complexity of device conFiguration and management. Voice takes up network resources and impacts data traffic. Additionally, voice has stringent end-to-end performance requirements that translate directly to end-user satisfaction. An ideal network design should meet the voice performance requirements with minimal impact on the remaining traffic. This paper provides guidance, based on simulations performed by OPNET software using real data imported from production networks, on how you can audit VoIP conFigurations and conduct a voice readiness assessment. Based on the simulations conducted, this paper also suggests quality of service policies in order to help maintain a satisfaction level similar to the level obtained by the PSTN.
